| Abstract | O Cerrado é um dos biomas de maior biodiversidade do planeta, e estende-se por mais de dois milhões de quilômetros quadrados no Brasil. Embora seja incontestável sua relevância ecológica, suas fitofisionomias têm sido suprimidas em ritmo elevado, e o bioma, gradativamente convertido em áreas agrícolas e pastagens, parte destas já degradadas. Este artigo tem como objetivo geral analisar a distribuição espacial do desmatamento ocorridos em fitofisionomias do Cerrado. Foi realizado o processamento de dados espaciais do sistema PRODES Cerrado, por meio de um software de sistema de informação geográfica (SIG), que permitiu quantificar as áreas desmatadas nas Unidades Federativas e produzir mapas temáticos. Os resultados apontam que, até o ano 2000, o desmatamento era mais intenso nos estados das regiões Sul, Sudeste e Centro-Oeste. Porém, nas duas últimas décadas, houve o avanço sobre o Maranhão, o Tocantins, o Piauí e a Bahia, estados das regiões Norte e Nordeste que integram a região de recente expansão agrícola denominada MATOPIBA. Tais estados ainda possuem expressivas áreas constituídas por remanescentes preservados de Cerrado. Os resultados apontam também que o desmatamento já ultrapassou a metade da área do bioma em 2020. ABSTRACT: The Brazilian Cerrado biome (Brazilian Savanna) is one of the greatest domains in biodiversity on the planet, with an extension of more than 2 million square kilometers in the Brazilian territory. Although its ecological relevance is incontestable, its phytophysiognomies has been severely suppressed and the biome has been gradually converted into agricultural areas and degraded pastures. This paper aims to discuss the spatial distribution of deforestation occurred in phytophysiognomies of the Brazilian Cerrado biome. The processing of spatial data from PRODES Cerrado was performed using a geographic information system (GIS) software, which allowed to quantify the deforested areas in the Federative Units of the Brazilian Cerrado and produce thematic maps. The results show that, until the year of 2000, the deforestation was more intense in the states of the Southern, Southeastern and Central-Eastern regions. However, in the last two decades, there was the headway towards Maranhão, Tocantins, Piauí and Bahia, states of the Northern and Northeastern region that integrate the recent region of agricultural expansion named MATOPIBA. Those states still have expressive areas constituted by preserved remnants of Brazilian Cerrado. The results also show that the deforestation has already exceeded half of the area of the biome in 2020. | |||
